Cambodia has lost territory in the east: Sam Rainsy

CAMBODIA has lost territory in the east as senior leader Hun Sen, who is puppet of some foreign countries, has seized it for himself, Amarin TV quoted former Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy as saying today (Aug.22).

According to Rainsy’s latest videocast on the border situation, Hun Sen is not afraid of losing territory but is afraid of losing power.

Resolving border issues on both eastern and western frontiers of Cambodia requires proper compliance with the Paris Peace Accords signed on October 23, 1991 as this is the only pact that can protect democracy in Cambodia, the exiled former Cambodian opposition leader said.

However Hun Sen is not prioritising compliance to the Paris agreement because he does not fear Cambodia losing territory instead fears him and his family losing power because the pact requires adherence to a democratic system with free and fair elections being held.

If there is a true democracy in Cambodia, Hun Sen’s dictatorship would collapse, Sam Rainsy said.

The Paris agreement established terms for ending the protracted civil war in Cambodia and involved nineteen signatory states and the United Nations as a witness. This accord facilitated the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) and aimed to promote national reconciliation, free and fair elections, and the withdrawal of foreign forces.
