Fighting still raging at six locations along the border

FIGHTING continues to rage at six locations along the Thai-Cambodian border at nightfall today (July 24) with the situation remaining the same as during daytime while the Thai military has achieved its target, Naewna newspaper and Amarin TV said.

At 6 p.m. the Thai army posted a message on Facebook saying that Cambodian soldiers has just fired 122mm RM-70 rockets from Oddar Meanchey province into Surin province.

Throughout the day, there were continuous clashes in the border areas of Surin, Buriram, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.

Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, the army spokesman, said clashes are taking place at the same six locations they broke out in the morning and have not spread further.

“In summary, the operation was successful and did not deviate from what was projected. We are ready. Sometimes, people may not see it as being quick enough, but in reality, there is a plan and preparation, and the operation must be within the framework of international rules,” he said.

Maj. Gen. Winthai confirmed that Cambodia fired first in the area of the disputed Prasat Ta Muen Thom Temple.

Regarding the observation that there are spies who act like civilians and are secretly taking photos and sending them to Cambodia, the army is monitoring and investigating this issue.

Thailand had no intention or motivation to attack Cambodia because it does not gain any benefit from doing so and has acted within the legitimacy of international law according to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Thai and Cambodian governments and all relevant parties must find a way to negotiate and find a peaceful way to solve the root cause of the conflict, both directly and indirectly, because the peoples of the two countries should not be caught in warfare, he said.

After artillery and BM-21 Grad rockets fired by Cambodian troops hit residential areas, including houses and a hospital, altogether 11 Thai civilians died and 35 got injured.

Kantharalak Witthaya School posted condolences on the death of Ms. Thaksaporn, a ninth-grade student, on “Pr.klws” webpage with this drawing a lot of condolences from the general public.

Meanwhile it was confirmed that the six F-16 fighter jets scrambled to attack Cambodian positions during the day had returned safely from the 20-minute air operation.

The army’s Facebook page released photos of the fighter jets dropping bombs and precisely hitting the targets.
