THE Thai army clarified and reached an understanding with Cambodian soldiers after a former volunteer ranger and another man punched a Cambodian soldier at Prasat Ta Muen Thom border temple, Surin province, this morning (July 13), TV Channel 7 and Naewna newspaper said.
A video clip released by Ankhor Fresh Facebook page shows two men punching the Cambodian soldier after one of them shakes hands with him then running away.
The Thai army said initial investigation showed that the perpetrator was Mr. Sommai Srisukranan, a former volunteer ranger who is currently the president of the Pak Thong Chai Volunteer Ranger Club and also the president of the Samut Sakhon War Veterans Network.
Since the incident occurred at a tourist attraction, Thai military officers have already reached an understanding with the victim so that relations at the officers’ level are not affected.
The former volunteer ranger has been sent to police for legal action.
Later Facebook page “Khao Jom Phalang” posted a message about the incident, stating that it occurred because several buses full of Cambodians visit this temple on holidays. Upon arriving there they take up all the seats with none left for Thais.
This led to an argument between the two groups of tourists with the Cambodian soldier separating them but then verbally provoking the two Thai men which led to taking revenge.
