New scam centre emerges in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province: Cyber Police

IN RAIDING and destroying the criminal network of a Cambodian suspect who is close to the neighbouring country’s Senate President Hun Sen on charges of running a call centre gang in Poipet, opposite Aranayprathet border town, Technology Crime Suppression Division or Cyber Police discovered that Chinese grey capitalists had moved their crime hub to Oddar Meanchey province, Naewna newspaper said last evening (July 8).

In the hunt for Mr. Kok An, Hun Sen’s close associate who owns Crown Casino Resort network in Poipet, under an arrest warrant issued on charges of running a large call centre gang there 19 locations in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chonburi were searched yesterday including a house in Samut Prakan.

Cyber Police said there is an interesting development along the Thai-Cambodian border with scam gangs from Shwe Kokko organised crime hub in Myanmar’s Myawaddy border town, opposite Thai Mae Sot town, and Poipet moving near O’Smach border town, in Samraong district, Oddar Meanchey Province. This is just opposite Chong Chom checkpoint, Kap Choeng district, Surin province.

Earlier this year Shwe Kokko, which was one of the largest scam centres in Asia, shut down after Thailand shut off electricity, Internet and fuel supplies from five points to Myanmar and later raided by Karen Border Guard Force leading to thousands of scam workers from various countries being freed.

With Shwe Kokko now shut and Poipet being closely watched, Chinese capitalists are moving their scam hub there, they said.

However, the Chong Chom border crossing is currently rather quiet due to tight control on tourists crossing over to gamble at this casino. Even so, students are still allowed to come to the Thai side to study and humanitarian assistance provided.

Yet it was observed that trucks are still transporting construction material across the border and in an inner area of Samraong district a power plant and a petrol pump are being built.
