A YOUNG Ukrainian woman who attracted the attention of Thai netizens after photos of a luxury condo unit she had damaged over the return of 32,000 baht deposit spread online was arrested at Phuket Airport today (May 10) just as she was about to fly overseas, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Pol. Col. Somsak Thongkliang, chief of Wichit police station, sent Pol. Lt. Col. Thirawat Amnatcharoenying, the deputy chief for investigation, and his team to the airport to arrest Ms. Anastasia Fidanian, 19, on charges of damaging property.
Upon being brought to the police station the suspect confessed to the charges and explained that she trashed the condo unit because she had not got her deposit back and was pregnant which led to her being stressed and commit such acts.
Police said they will be taking her to the court tomorrow for legal procedure.
On April 30 Ms. Warinrat Dumlak, 39, had filed a complaint against the Ukrainian woman at this police station stating that when the one-year rental contract ended on April 15 this year, the tenant refused to move out and continued staying.
That day there was an appointment for the return of the unit but the tenant sent a message that she had already left and threw the key in a trash can.
Warinrat said she went to inspect the unit with a friend and the building’s security guard and after a locksmith opened it found it damaged with graffiti on the walls, mattress slashed and all electrical appliances destroyed. Initially, it was estimated that the damage was 350,000 baht.
After a Facebook user posted pictures of the damaged condo, netizens questioned what the figure scribbled on the wall, 32,000, was about.
Warinrat then explained that she was ready to return the 32,000 baht deposit but only to the person who signed the rental contract, which is not the Ukrainian woman.
