INSURGENTS IN southern border province of Yala burnt a surveillance camera as well as tried burning two 4G cameras, hung up cloth banners and placed suspicious objects in a public place today (May 9), Naewna newspaper said.
Village security guards were this morning alerted of a CCTV camera installed by Kabang subdistrict municipality, Kabang district, being burnt and an attempt made to burn two 4G cameras newly installed at the entrance of a school so quickly alerted officers to come and inspect them.
Meanwhile, defence volunteers were alerted that cloth banners with pro-Pattani messages had been hung up at two villages in Ban Rae subdistrict, Than To district, across Highway 410 (Yala-Betong) and contacted relevant officials to collect the evidence.
Later a resident in Mueang district notified the authorities that a cloth banner had been installed and suspicious objects placed at a roadside shelter opposite a U-turn. This area was then blocked off and evidence collected.
Officers said this is an attempt to create chaos by some new insurgents who had just joined the violent group.
