THE BHUMJAITHAI, surreptitiously steered by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, was the political party given most public donations in cash earlier this year, according to a latest report of the Election Commission.
Last February, nearly 100 people, mostly being Bhumjaithai MPs and partisan members, reportedly granted a combined 2.37 million baht in cash to the second largest coalition partner.
That compared to 1.5 million baht in cash donated to the Ruam Thai Sang Chart, the third largest coalition partner under de facto party boss/former coup leader-turned-prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, by a boat parts and accessories supplier/drone manufacturer, namely Seri Sanpakit Co.Ltd.
The Klatham, led by Agriculture & Cooperatives Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat and covertly steered by her predecessor/MP Thammanat Prompao, was provided 1.19 million baht in grant from one of the executive members of the fourth largest coalition partner.
The Chart Thai Pattana, led by Social Development & Human Security Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, was granted one million baht by the owner of a rice mill, namely Or Karn Kaset Ltd., in Suphanburi, the only stronghold of the seventh coalition partner, while the Thai Sang Thai was donated one million baht in cash by Sudarat Keyurapan, leader of the opposition party where all six MPs have practically become renegades lending solid support for the Pheu Thai-led government.
The People’s, the largest opposition camp practically resurrected from the court-dissolved Move Forward, was granted some 652,000 baht, mostly from 40-plus donors, mostly being their MPs and partisan members.
Last February, a combined 8.97 million baht in cash donation was granted to 13 parties, including those currently without an elected lawmaker.
