PM returns home after attending censure debate for almost 15 hours

PRIME MINISTER Paetongtarn Shinawatra returned home last night after participating in the  no-confidence debate from 08.15 a.m. to 10.32 p.m., a total of 14 hours and 17 minutes, Amarin TV and Thai Rath newspaper said.

Reporters asked her about the perplexing word “kiki” being mentioned during the debate, and Paetongtarn replied:

“I just heard it today. At first, I couldn’t understand it, so I wasn’t shocked.”

The reporters asked again about Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Phumtham Wechayachai’s suggestion to Google search, and the Prime Minister replied, “what I saw on Google was like that, but I saw a news agency post on Instagram and found out that it had another meaning. I read it quickly and ask each person to interpret it. I can’t conclude on this.”

This word was widely discussed online after  People’s MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn used it while arguing with Pheu Thai MP Nuchnat Charuwongsathian who objected to his raising allegations of false declaration of assets and liabilities, sham transactions, and tax evasion by the Prime Minister and members of the Shinawatra family.

One interpretation of the word “kiki” is a lackey, a minion of the villain in the Japanese superhero media franchise Kamen Rider series.

However, this issue has been widely discussed online, leading to the hashtag #Kiki became a top trend on X in Thailand.

Asked how she would score the performance of the opposition in the no-confidence debate, the Prime Minister replied briefly that “we must encourage each other.”

On being asked how the first day of the debate was, she replied “good” and got in the car and left.

Paetongtarn hit back at the opposition after some MPs leveled accusations that she is not serious about solving the problem of PM2.5 pollution having labeled it as an “Asean agenda” pointing out that she took this step because smoke and dust is drifting to Thailand from neighbouring countries. Moreover she had asked for cooperation and assistance at ministerial level to prevent post-harvest agricultural burning in neighboring countries as well.
