DE FACTO PHEU THAI BOSS Thaksin Shinawatra who has been charged with a lese majeste lawsuit was today (Jan.31) allowed by court to leave for Malaysia over the upcoming weekend.
The Criminal Court today allowed the billionaire power player/father of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to temporarily depart for Malaysia where he asked to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Abrahim during the upcoming Sunday and Monday. The prime minister of Malaysia who currently chairs Asean has named Thaksin as personal adviser.
However, the de facto Pheu Thai boss placed a five-million-baht collateral in court to vouch for his obligatory return to Thailand immediately following his imminent visit to the neighbouring country.
Last year, Thaksin had requested for but been denied by court a temporary departure to Dubai where he had excused in vain to undergo medical treatments. He had stayed in self-exile in the Middle East state until he returned home in 2023.
He had been charged in court of making a verbal statement with lese majeste content during an interview with a news agency in Seoul in 2015, accusing the Thai monarchy of being involved in the 2006 coup which ousted him as elected prime minister.
