THAI airports started functioning normally again today (July 20) after yesterday’s global tech outage led to some airlines using the Departure Control System being unable to check-in passengers and allow seat reservation for all their flights across the world, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Mr. Keerati Kijmanawat, president of Airports of Thailand (AOT) which operates six major Thai airports, said the system was back to normal at 2 a.m. today but again crashed at 9 a.m. before being restored at 11 a.m.
While the check-in queues are now normal, passengers were still advised to arrive three hours before their flight because of a large number of travellers during the long weekend.
The global tech outage affected 200 flights but all except one were able to take off although some were one to three hours late. Cancelled at 10 a.m. today was a Bangkok-Osaka flight.
No passengers missed their flight but some did ask to change their flight or requested a refund, with the latter possible under the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand’s regulations.
AOT has sent in additional personnel for support over the next three days in case another crash occurs.
