LATEST POLICE statistics show two out of three cybercrime victims who reported to police from March 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 were working women in the 22-59 age bracket and not the elderly and youths who are frequently in the news after being scammed, TV Channel 7 said today (July 29).
Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deephor, a deputy spokesman of the National Police, also revealed that a total of 575,507 cybercrime cases were reported during this period with total damage reaching 65.715 billion baht, or averaging over 80 million baht a day.
These statistics also show that 64 percent of the victims were women and 36 percent men with most being in the working age group.
Details are as follows:
– 11-14 age group: 0.12 percent;
– 15-17 years: 0.78 percent;
– 18-21 years: 6.22 percent;
– 22-29 years: 25.33 percent;
– 30-44 years: 41.51 percent;
– 45-59 years: 19.62 percent;
– 60 years and above: 6.42 percent.
Police urged the public to beware that despite the perception youths and the elderly are mostly scammed by cybercriminals to go by news coverage, the reality is that it is working age people who these scammers target and urged people to protect themselves from fraud.
