THAILAND IS STRONGLY ADVISED to literally cut off power lines and internet signals feeding “grey Chinese capitalists” in a certain area of Myanmar’s Myawaddy township riddled with online scams and gambling dens.
House Committee on National Security, Border Affairs, National Strategies & Reforms Chair Rangsiman Rome urged the Thai authorities, especially the Provincial Electricity Authority and National Broadcasting & Telecommunication Commission, to terminate the daily supplying of power and internet signals to Shwe Kokko, Myawaddy’s district riddled with online scamming rackets and casinos.
Power poles were erected across Moei River from Mae Sot on the Thai side of the shared border to Myawaddy to feed power to the “grey Chinese capitalists” in Shwe Kokko, the House chair-cum-Move Forward MP said.
Rangsiman insisted that the PEA terminate a power supply contract with the Myanmar township in effort to contain the online scamming and casino businesses which, he said, have been preying on many victims in Thailand.
According to the House chair, most Chinese tourists arriving in Mae Sot would practically find their way to Shwe Kokko to gamble at its casinos.
Rangsiman said he will certainly meet with executive officials of the National Security Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PEA and NBTC in pursuit of an end to power and internet signals supplies currently provided for the “grey Chinese capitalists” in Myawaddy’s border district.
