Deceased activist’s lawyer sets 4-day deadline to hand over video clips

THE LAWYER for woman activist Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkhom who died while holding a hunger strike during detention at a Bangkok prison said this afternoon (May 20) that he has received a report on her medical treatment at the Corrections Department hospital five days before she passed away but as video clips have not been handed over, he is giving them four days to do so, TV Channel 7 said.

Mr. Kritsadang Nutjarat, president of Lawyers for Human Rights Centre,  said he has not yet opened and read the report because it is confidential while he is also waiting for a report from Thammasat Chalerm Phra Kiat Hospital where Netiporn was rushed to on May 14 and died there.

The 27-year-old woman detainee who had been charged with violating the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, staged the fatal hunger strike in protest of her having been denied bail for 110 days till her death.

Kritsadang said the Corrections Department hospital had told him the video clips were not ready because faces of people unrelated to Netiporn’s death have to be pixelated and asked to postpone the handover.

He then set a four-day deadline for this hospital’s management to do so, that is till Friday May 24, 2024.

“I want to see the video from the time of examination at 6.30 a.m. until CPR was performed at 9 a.m. If we get all the documents and surveillance camera footage, we will summarise the information before discussing with those involved,” he said.
