WITH THE temperature reaching 40 degrees Celsius in northeastern Khon Kaen city today (Apr. 1) the sweltering heat led to people rushing to buy used air-conditioners with there also being long queues for cleaning service, TV Channel 7 said.
An air-conditioning technician at Thanakorn Air Khon Kaen shop in Nai Mueang subdistrict, Mueang district, said he is busy repairing and replacing worn out parts of second-hand air-conditioners that are in relatively good condition to meet a strong demand for them this summer and is able to sell five to six units a day.
Of course that customers are opting for used air-conditioners is because the price of a new one is more than double. These second-hand units are going for 5,000 baht each but this also depends on the size and the BTU (British Thermal Units).
There are also long queues for cleaning service with technicians servicing as many as 40 units a day, which is higher than the target.
Most of the customers are residing in dormitories but there are also owners of single houses that have four to five air-conditioners and urgently need them cleaned.
This technician said if an air-conditioner starts making a loud noise or is slow in cooling the room this is a sign that it is dirty and a technician should be immediately called to clean it as they should not be left in this state for too long.
He recommends that air-conditioners be cleaned once every six months, not annually as is usually the case. However some people don’t clean them at all with this leading to their units breaking down and more money spent on repairing them.
