ABOUT 105 BILLION BAHT in cash flow over the purchase of merchandise and services is expected across the country during the approaching New Year season, the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce’s (UTCC) Centre for Economic & Business Forecasting reported.
According to today’s (Dec.21) UTCC economic forecast, an estimated 105.92 billion baht worth of varied goods and services will circulate nationwide during the festive year-end season with each reveller spending an average of about 6,000 baht.
The anticipated spending represents a 2.8% increase in value from last year and a record high in four years.
The total of predicted spending includes more than 60 billion baht on leisure travels, either within the country or overseas, 19.41 billion baht on partying, merit-making activities and consumption of general merchandise and services and more than five billion baht on luxury goods, according to the UTCC economic forecast.
Given the Pheu Thai-led government’s “easy e-receipt” campaign for the well-to-do, each recipient may buy a maximum of 50,000 baht worth of goods and services at stores in the boundaries of their home district from Jan. 1 until Feb.15 and have their personal income tax refunded.
However, the parallel 10,000-baht digital wallet campaign for those who may currently earn no more than 70,000 baht monthly or currently have no more than 500,000 baht in bank account is not effective until May.
