Schoolgirl shot dead in front of Pattani mosque

ONE of two eighth-grade schoolgirls sitting in front of a mosque in Pattani’s Mueang district was shot by a man who drove past in a sports utility vehicle and she later died in the hospital, Matichon newspaper said this afternoon (Mar. 10).

At around 8.35 a.m. police were alerted of the shooting in front of Darusnadwatus Islamiya Mosque near Pracharak School in Mueang district where one of the two students, identified as Miss Kutakwa, 14, was hit in the chest. She was taken to Pattani Hospital but later died.

Preliminary investigation shows that the attacker, a man around 30 years old, drove past in the seven-seater grey SUV registered in this southern province and fired the two shots.

After that he headed for Route 420 to an unknown destination but police believe he was going to Yarang district and are chasing him while rushing to investigate the motive for the shooting.
