A BUS taking a school football team and their coaches from Bangkok’s Nong Chok district to a field in Bang Sao Thong district, Samut Prakan, hit the top of a Motorway underpass causing the roof to cave in and this leading to 13 of them getting injured, Thai Rath newspaper said today (Jan. 15).
At 12.30 p.m. today Samut Prakan Rescue Centre was notified of the accident at Motorway kilometre 30, Bang Bo district, and quickly alerted Ruamkatanyu rescuers to go there and help.
It was found at the scene that the bus’ roof upfront had collapsed and had knocked a row of seats to the floor.
Of the 32 passengers, 26 were 14-year-old football players who were accompanied by six coaches. The rescuers quickly rushed the 11 students and two coaches who were injured to the hospital while helping the rest of the team reach the sports field to play their game.
The driver of the bus said that he was not familiar with this route and was following the GSP to get to the destination. When they reached this underpass he thought the bus would be able to clear it and asked one of the coaches who agreed with him. He drove through slowly but unfortunately as they had misjudged the height the bus hit the top of the underpass.
When police arrived at the scene they found the driver had already taken the bus back to Nong Chok for repairs. However they have enough information to take legal action against him.
