JUST 10 days before their wedding a young couple driving a pick-up van back home in Suphan Buri crashed into a tree after slipping off the road in heavy rain seriously injuring both of them but bride later died in the hospital, Sanook.com said this afternoon (Oct. 27).
Pol. Capt. Ritpong Mapakhe, an investigating officer at Bang Pla Ma police station, was alerted of the accident on Bang Bua Thong – Suphan Buri road inbound to Suphan Buri at 5 a.m. this morning. He quickly rushed there after coordinating with Suphan Buri Rescue Foundation to also send a team to help out.
At the scene they found that the passenger cabin of the white pick-up van, licence plate number 7629, had collapsed with two persons seated within injured.
The rescuers used equipment to pull out the couple, Mr. Sittichai (surname withheld), 26, and Ms. Masaya (surname withheld), 33, who were both seriously injured. They were quickly sent to the Bang Pla Ma Hospital but the latter later succumbed to her wounds.
Investigation revealed that Sittichai was returning home in Wang Nam Yen subdistrict. Bang Pla Ma district, after delivering eggs in Chachoengsao province in heavy rain with the road flooded.
It seems he lost control of the vehicle which slid down the roadside and hit this big tree.
Sittichai and Masaya were going to get married on Nov. 6 with the invitation cards already distributed to the guests.
Pol. Capt. Ritpong said no charges have been filed as yet because the driver has been seriously injured with an investigation only possible after his condition improves to find out the real cause of the accident and prosecute under the law.
It is assumed that the accident occurred because of the heavy rain and slippery road but this has to be thoroughly investigated, he added.
