RATSADORN GROUP of pro-democracy activists today (Oct. 6) called for the dissolution of the House of Representatives as soon as possible to return power to the people by way of a general election.
Ratsadorn group leader Patsaravalee Tanakitvibulpon announced that the people in all sectors of society would prefer to see the general election for MPs held nationwide rather than to be further ruled by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, head of the 2014 coup junta who ousted an elected government, tore up a previous constitution and yet has been allegedly assisted in contentious, unbecoming fashion by coalition MPs, unelected senators and “independent” agencies such as the Constitutional Court.
The activist group mostly consisting of university students and political activists called for the army chief-turned-premier to return power to the democracy-loving people by dissolving the House, thus calling a general election as soon as possible, though he has been recently allowed by court to prolong his rule until 2025.
The pro-democracy group called on the Constitutional Court to promptly deliver a ruling on the constitutionality of a questionable organic law pertaining to the election for MPs so that it could be enforced in the awaited election and the Election Commission to manage to hold the nationwide race to parliament in transparency- and justice-based fashion.
The Ratsadorn statement was issued on occasion of today’s 46th anniversary of the 1976 student massacre in the premises of Thammasat University.
