THE FATHER of Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan Wilawan Mr. Suntorn Wilawan was bailed out in the Khao Yai reserved forest land encroachment case after surrendering to police in Rayong province this morning (June 21), Naewna newspaper and INN News said.
The prosecutor from the National Anti-Corruption Commission Region 2 office filed the lawsuit against Suntorn, who is a former MP of his home province of Prachinburi and currently performs as president of the provincial administrative organisation, at the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases Region 2 over the encroachment that occurred in 2002.
This court accepted the case and set the first hearing for August 5, 2022 at 9.30 a.m.
After that his relatives petitioned the court for his temporary release and this was granted with a surety of 600,000 baht upon the condition that he not travel overseas.
Kanokwan recently said she was not yet resigning from her position despite also being officially accused of standing behind that illegal encroachment upon the major national park.
She had quoted Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul who concurrently acts as top leader of Bhumjaithai Party to which the woman politician belongs as saying she need not resign unless the misconduct case filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against her father, herself and four other persons is formally accepted by court.
As to whether or not the case has reached the statute of limitations, the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases stated when an arrest warrant was issued for him that according to the law this does not include the duration when the defendant has escaped and for this reason the case may proceed.
