THE PUBLIC Health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary said at a meeting in Surat Thani today (May 24) that from mid-June onwards most people except for those in the 608 group, that is the elderly over sixty years age, those suffering from chronic diseases and young children, would not have to wear face masks in pilot zones, Sanook.com said.
However Dr. Kiattipoom Wongrachit, the permanent secretary, said they would still have to wear them when in an enclosed place with poor ventilation or joining a crowd.
Speaking at Diamond Plaza Hotel where he presided over a meeting of officials of this ministry, Kiattipoom added that this step is part of the transition to downgrade Covid-19 to an endemic disease.
He also mentioned that currently the Covid situation is improving faster than anticipated and that his ministry is confident the downgrade would take place as planned.
Regional officials too have to arrange activities where people are guided on ways to safely coexist with this virus.
