MOUNTING additional pressure on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha who is going through a no-confidence debate in parliament is a demonstration by two activist groups at Ratchaprasong intersection that got under way at 4 p.m. today (Sept. 3), Thai Rath newspaper said.
People were steadily flocking in to join the rally organised by United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration and Thalufah (Through the Sky) activist groups.
Among today’s keynote speakers is Mr. Thanat Thanakitamnuay, or Hiso Luknut, who was blinded in his right eye during a recent protest.
Another clash between independent protesters and crowd-control police took place at Ratchaprarop road last evening after the former had assembled at Din Daeng intersection.
This group of protesters tried to move to Ratchaprarop road but were resisted by police who used tear gas to keep them out.
The independent protesters had then retreated to Din Daeng intersection after a police booth caught fire and by 8.50 p.m. police were able to seize control of Ratchaprarop area.
