THAILAND’S National Communicable Disease Committee has announced that people who do not wear masks in public may face a fine of up to 20,000 baht, if they are caught breaking the rule for the third time, NNT said today (June 10).
According to an announcement, published in the Royal Gazette, the move aims to ensure all people wear face masks in public, to reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19, and the regulation will be suspended once the Covid-19 crisis is resolved, or the state of emergency is lifted.
Under the Communicable Diseases Act BE 2558 (2015), people who do not wear a face mask in public areas may face no more than a 1,000 baht fine the first time, no more than 10,000 baht the second time and no more than 20,000 baht the third time.
In case the suspects do not agree with the punishment, or fail to pay the fine within 30 days, communicable disease officers can submit the issue to investigative officers for legal action. If there is repeated wrongdoing or wrongdoing by any person that may affect public safety, communicable disease officers can submit the matter to investigative officers for legal action as well.
