Minister fuming at chemicals leaking at Ayutthaya factory three times in a row

INDUSTRY Minister Ms. Pimpatra Wichaikul is furious at chemicals leaking at a factory in Ayutthaya province for the third time in a row last night (Apr. 27) and ordered the Department of Industrial Works to quickly resolve this problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Apr. 28).

She is concerned about the safety of people living near Ek Uthai Company’s factory in Uthai district and recent chemical leaks and fires at this and other factories and warehouses affecting the country’s tourism image especially after CEOWORLD magazine named Thailand the top country to visit in 2024.

The minister said these chemical leaks are worrying and she does not want repeat of a fire that broke out at Wax Garbage Recycle Centre Co. in Ratchaburi on Apr. 4 with other similar incidents being a fire at an abandoned chemical warehouse Ayutthaya on Mar. 1, a chemical leak at a factory in Bangkok’s Rama 2 road on Apr. 25, and a fire at Win Process Co.’s chemical warehouses in Rayong on Apr. 22.

These chemical leaks and fires lead to people being afraid, getting distress and their health being affected.

“I therefore ordered the Permanent Secretary and the Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works to quickly investigate and find the root cause and take decisive action so that this kind of a thing doesn’t happen again.

“The Prime Minister is displeased and urged that preventive measures be found to stop something like this happening again especially at factories that store chemical industrial waste and hazardous substances which must get prior attention and must report regularly,” she said.
