RESERVE senators today (Sep.16) called on the Supreme Court to repeal the Election Commission’s ruling declared on Monday over 2024’s senatorial rigging allegations and to order truthful, evidence-based reinvestigation following the polling agency’s questionable exoneration of suspects attached to or associated with the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government.
The reserve senators led by former assistant police chief Khamrob Panyakaeo filed a petition for the Supreme Court judges in charge of lawsuits related to elections to overturn the commissioners’ ruling which had contentiously waived all accusations earlier launched against those Bhumjaithai-attached or associated suspects and prosecuted only 77 out of the total 229 suspects earlier pointed at by a now-defunct subcommittee of the polling agency.
Those suspects formally charged by the commissioners with electoral irregularities included 26 senators but none of the prominent Bhumjaithai figures including Prime Minister/Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul, members of cabinet, lawmakers and executive board members of the largest ruling party surreptitiously directed by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob with himself being one of the suspects who had been earlier accused of designing, masterminding and manipulating the electoral rigging conspiracy.
It remains to be seen whether the Supreme Court will formally accept the reserve senators’ petition which is seeking to have the election commissioners’ rulings entirely repealed by court and have the whole electoral fraud scandals reinvestigated on basis of truthful, undeniable evidence including bloc-vote scripts allegedly prepared and handed out by the suspected Bhumjaithai elements as well as other material and personal witnesses.
The commissioners four of whom had been handpicked by an overwhelming, pro-Bhumjaithai majority of senators have been largely accused by government critics of abusing their power only to unduly protect those politicians attached to the largest ruling party from prosecution in the Supreme Court pertaining to the alleged senatorial rigging conspiracy.
Only one of the Bhumjaithai MPs namely Somjate Limpabandhu has been named among a few eminent suspects attached to or connected with Newin’s camp as suspects by the polling agency.
