FORMER Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt is unfazed by an MP and a former MP submitting evidence to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on alleged corruption and illegality in the appointment and transfer of 17 high-ranking Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials, PPTVHD36 said today (June 12).
Economic Party MP, Mr. Chris Potranandana, and Pheu Thai Party’s former MP Mr. Jirayu Houngsub want the anti-corruption agency to file charges against Chadchart on these appointments and transfers he made during his first term as Bangkok governor.
Chadchart, who is running for a second term in gubernatorial and city council elections set to take place on June 28, said all citizens had the right to file a complaint with the anti-graft agency with any amount of evidence to back it up whatsoever.
He added that he has faced numerous complaints and investigations in the past, and could confidently affirm that the appointment and transfer processes were handled correctly and in accordance with regulations, without any problems.
He stated that he was willing and ready for the anti-graft agency to consider this complaint citing a recent example where Mr. Srisuwan Janya, an activist, filed a complaint against him, and this agency investigated the evidence and summoned the complainant for further information as per normal procedure.
Chatchart reiterated that throughout his four years in office, he had consistently performed his duty with integrity and is ready to prove the truth and is waiting to see the evidence presented by the complainants.
He also urged them to base their complaint on factual evidence, rather than merely attracting media attention during the complaint process, and to follow up the outcome of the justice system.
“Ultimately, whatever the outcome, I am confident that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has acted with integrity in all aspects,” he added.
He also thanked Mr. Suphanat Minchaiynunt, People’s Party MP for Bangkok Constituency 9 (Chatuchak-Bang Khen-Lak Si), for supporting him in the anti-graft agency’s consideration of the BMA’s exercise equipment procurement case.
The investigation involves multiple steps, both by the anti-corruption agency and the BMA’s board which has ordered a new investigation.
“Since the entire process is not yet complete and will take time, having someone help monitor and expedite the progress is beneficial, ensuring that all the facts are revealed to the public as quickly as possible,” he said.
