PRIME Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told shoppers while inspecting prices of goods on sale at a shopping mall in Bangkapi area of Bangkok today (April 4) that a round of 50:50 co-payment scheme will be implemented after April 30, TV Channel 7 and PPTVHD36 said.
The co-payment, in which the government will subsidise up to 50 percent of the costs of certain food and consumer goods purchased by qualified Thai citizens, would cover more areas but the amount of money would be the same, that is 2,000 baht each
However the government might be able to run it multiple times, he said.
Shoppers complained about the poor economy, to which Anutin replied that it was true and that after the policy statement had been delivered to Parliament, various policies could be implemented.
When shoppers asked whether there could be a bigger payout this time Anutin replied that it might be carried out more frequently, depending on the funds available. The timeframe would also be restricted, like two months the previous time, and not extended for a longer period.
A reporter then asked whether hearsay that this time the co-payment scheme will be 200 baht a month over 10 months was true, to which the Prime Minister retorted, “Where did you get that news from?”
He also clarified that he was not at the mall to randomly inspect product prices, but rather to check the effectiveness of the “Thai Helps Thai” product distribution scheme.
