A BERSERK man who fired a pistol at rescue workers attempting to help his girlfriend who he had beaten up then took his father-in-law hostage is being hunted by police who offered 50,000 baht bounty for his capture with 17 schools in Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi closed for safety, Naewna newspaper said today (Feb. 18).
At 8.15 a.m. Pol. Lt. Gen. Kamronwit Thupkrachang, president of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organisation, and his team went to the home of the suspect, Mr. Noparat (surname withheld), 31, in Rahang subdistrict, Lad Lum Kaeo district, Pathum Thani, after he had alleged fired a pistol at the rescuers’ emergency vehicle in Chonburi and spoke to his parents Mrs. La-or, 66, and Mr. Prakob, 60.
They said the suspect had contacted them and wanted to surrender. Pol. Lt. Gen. Kamronwit said he would come to arrest him if he contacted them again. Even so, should anyone give information leading to the suspect’s arrest he/she would be given the 50,000 baht bounty.
That schools were closed is because several parents had called to enquire about the safety of their children this morning.
This incident began on Sunday Feb. 15 when the suspect severely injured his girlfriend in Chonburi then fired at rescuers passing by in their emergency vehicle who attempted to help her, getting annoyed at being warned about parking in a dangerous spot on the motorway.
He then fled to his residence in Lat Lum Kaeo district and committed another crime by taking his father-in-law hostage, hoping to force his wife to come out. As he drove away his father-in-law managed to escape when the car slowed down.
It was later reported that the suspect reappeared with a firearm and threatened people in the community, causing widespread fear.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Peerapol Chotikasetthian, commander of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Noparat on charges of possession of firearms and unlawful detention. A search of his residence uncovered seven firearms. It is believed that the suspect is still carrying a weapon and is hiding in the border area of Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in district and Pathum Thani’s Lat Lum Kaeo district.
