Election might be called null and void, given barcodes, QR codes on voting ballots

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

SUNDAY’S ELECTION could possibly be declared by court as null and void due to the untoward existence of barcodes and QR codes on voting ballots.

The ballots distributed by the Election Commission were evidently found to bear barcodes for the party-listed mode of the nationwide election and QR codes for constituency-based mode, thus violating the electoral rules which provide for the casting of votes at polling units in ultimate secrecy.

Given the barcodes and QR codes on the ballots, the voters who produced their ID cards and signed their names on registration papers in the presence of referees at the polling units could be individually traced and identified at any given time to find out the electoral numbers which they picked for a candidate and a party at the cost of their personal secrecy.

A formal petition in pursuit of the nullification of the allegedly untransparent election may be filed to the Office of the Ombudsman who may forward it over to the Constitutional Court for final ruling whilst the Election Commission is not legally empowered to declare it null and void, confirmed former Prime Minister’s Office minister Chusak Sirinil who contested under the Pheu Thai tickets.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission was accused of working at the orders of an unidentified “director”, albeit in unbecoming, rule-bending fashion showcasing in Sunday’s election evidently riddled with rigging and irregularities, according to government critic Nattakorn Devakula.

All seven commissioners as well as the polling agency’s executive officials categorically denied complaints of electoral rigging and irregularities and could not have done anything without prior consent from the unnamed “director” who manipulated behind the scenes to make certain candidates running in constituency-based mode “elected” at the expense of clear and clean contests, Nattakorn alleged.

He charged that the polling agency allegedly turned blind eye and deaf ear to the untoward phenomenon in which “ghost ballots” had been covertly put in cardboard boxes either fastened with cable ties or not whilst some good ballots had been literally dumped or destroyed and vote-counting papers had been surreptitiously doctored in the alleged rigging conspiracy primarily designed to land the rogue contestants the undue victories.

The government critic referred to allegations of electoral rigging perpetrated in Constituency 1 of Chonburi, prompting students and others to protest and raise a resolute demand to the extent that all votes be recounted for the sake of a transparent, fair election but the commissioners resolved to dismiss it, contending that no such irregularities had occurred as alleged.

However, he said the unnamed “director” who pulled the strings behind the commissioners might probably be sooner than later unveiled online by those who could no longer tolerate the alleged cheating shenanigan.

In addition, certain unidentified referees at many voting units had been allegedly hired by unnamed contestants to rig the votes and make them “elected” partly with the “ghost ballots” and partly with the deliberate declaration of the unpicked electoral numbers which may have gone unnoticed by others.

In some constituencies, the total of the votes collected for all contestants combined was not equal to that of the ballots handed out to the voters whilst the total of the constituency ballots outnumbered that of the party ballots.

In other constituencies, the hired referees had surreptitiously dumped or destroyed a large amount of good ballots which they had replaced with the “ghost ballots” as part of the alleged, premeditated rigging conspiracy.
