FORMER FUTURE FORWARD leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit today (Jan.8) told people in a Bhumjaithai-dominated constituency that the People’s future MPs will definitely not vote Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for head of government after the Feb.8 general election no matter if the reformist camp will eventually become the largest elected one or not.
Joining the People’s electoral campaign trail in Buriram, the largest stronghold of the Bhumjaithai, currently core of the caretaker government under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, Thanathorn reassured to a crowd of local villagers in Constituency 8 of the northeastern province that the People’s elected lawmakers will ultimately no longer pick Anutin for prime minister as had been the case over the last few months and that they will certainly vote their own party leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut for head of the executive branch following the nationwide election.
Under no circumstances will the People’s future MPs endorse the caretaker prime minister for head of government even if Newin’s camp eventually comes out as core of a post-election coalition government by aligning with any other camps such as the likes of the Pheu Thai or Klatham, among others, according to the ex-leader of the court-dissolved Future Forward which had been practically resurrected as the court-dissolved Move Forward and finally the People’s.
For that reason, the People’s will by no means jump onto the bandwagon of a possible coalition, no matter if the Bhumjaithai may spearhead it or be part of it, according to the ex-Future Forward leader.
On the other hand, the People’s might probably set up a post-election government of their own without Bhumjaithai as a possible coalition partner, given the retrospective in which the reformist camp had come up as the largest-elected one in the 2023 election, Thanathorn said.
In the previous election, Newin’s camp swept overwhelming victories in all 10 constituencies throughout his home province of Buriram.
Meanwhile, former children’s health and welfare activist Nattaya Boonpakdee was today formally introduced as the People’s pick for social development & human security minister if the reformist camp becomes core of the post-election government.
Nattaya, former senior director of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation’s Office for Children, Adolescents & Families Health Support, will primarily aim at promoting sexual diversities among members of society and enhancing the parenting for working people and an executive official of the United Nations Population Fund Project (Thailand), is currently contesting the nationwide election in party-listed mode under the People’s banners.
She has been named the People’s candidate for social development & human security minister among others under the People’s Professionals campaign in which members of a People’s-led, future cabinet are being publicly introduced prior to the Feb.8 election – a stark contrast to all other contesting camps which will usually not name any members of cabinet until after the race to parliament.
