THAI police arrested a Singaporean man wanted under both an Interpol Red Notice and Singaporean police warrant on scamming charges hiding at his Thai wife’s house in Khon Kaen, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Nov.19).
Pol. Maj. Gen. Athip Phongsiwapai, deputy commissioner of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), and his team nabbed Mr.Sie Eng Fa, also known as Brian, 32, on charges of overstaying in Thailand at a house in Dong Lan subdistrict, Si Chomphu district, of this Northeastern province.
This followed Singaporean police having contacted CIB’s Anti-Online Fraud Centre to apprehend the suspect as he was a member of a scam gang operating from a base in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and is one of 34 scam suspects they are chasing.
Upon being questioned Sie Eng Fa confessed to having worked for a scam gang in Phnom Penh as a financial administrator. He was paid a salary of US$4,000 (approximately 129,000 baht) to threaten and trick victims by pretending to be a government official.
This gang’s boss and all the members are Singaporean and Malaysian nationals.
He was handed over to investigators at Immigration Bureau’s Sub-Division 3 for legal proceedings and deportation to Singapore.
