EIGHT bombs exploded in succession in Yala City last night (Oct. 8) but fortunately there were no casualties with the public warned that the penalty for helping the perpetrators is two years imprisonment and/or a 40,000 baht fine, TV Channel 7 and Naewna newspaper said this morning.
The blasts started at 8.03 p.m. with seven occurring at Suan Khwan Muang park and the eight at Chang Phueak Stadium at 10.52 p.m.
Officers immediately took control of the area with Lt. Gen. Narathip Poynok, the Fourth Army Region commander and director of Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, immediately arriving at the scene to monitor the situation and be briefed by relevant agencies. He emphasised imposing tight security measures in this zone.
Mr. Kongsakul Chantharat, deputy governor of Yala province, said as the sound of these blasts was the same as the one that went off at Yala Municipality Youth Centre a day earlier, with this being an improvised pipe bomb weighing approximately one kilogramme and detonated with a timer, it is assumed these were the same but officials will still have to investigate and determine exactly what they were.
The public were reassured that all security units are working together to ensure their safety and enable them to continue their normal lives.
Lt. Gen. Narathip Poynok also urged residents who have information about the blasts or see suspicious persons and objects to contact ISOC Region 4 hotline at 1341 or the nearest special task force unit who are available all 24 hours a day.
