THE Second Army Region has detected 20 Cambodian drones flying in the area of the ancient Prasat Ta Kwai temple and 14 at Phu Makhuea in Sisaket province as well as several other locations along the Thai-Cambodian border today (Oct. 3), Amarin TV said.
The Operations Centre said 12 Cambodian drones were also detected at Ban Kruat district, Buriram province, two each at Mueang and Phanom Dong Rak districts of Surin province, one each at Phu Phi, Don Tual and Phlaen Hin Paet Kon and five near the ancient Preah Vihear temple.
Currently, the armed forces of both countries remain stationed at their respective positions. The Thai side has deployed personnel at surveillance points to monitor Cambodian movements and is prepared to respond to the situation as need be.
Meanwhile Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this afternoon that while there were no clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border Thailand is prepared and constantly ensuring that the Thai army is ready and has superior strength than the opponents with this being a key principle in protecting sovereignty.
Troops in Surin province have requested for anti-drone systems and the government along with the military have already made plans to deploy them.
Anutin added that as the public did not want border crossings to be reopened, this would not be done until all conditions are met and the best interest of Thailand upheld.
Regarding building a fence along the border, he said the military would determine where, when and how it would be built. The fence would take various forms, adapting to the terrain.
