Sheff Wednesday appeal for help after nightmare summer followed by arrival of starlet

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

AFTER arguably the toughest summer in the history of Sheffield Wednesday, Owl fans saw the arrival of an exciting new face with the signing of Manchester United defender Harry Amass at the last moment.

Of course, the 18-year-old full-back on loan from Manchester United until January lacks experience. However, having come from Red Devils, it must be said that he will operate in a slightly different way to the youngsters coming through at Sheffield Wednesday.

Amass has time to get adjusted to life as an Owl, and over the next few weeks, his task will be to prove to Henrik Pedersen why he deserves to play in the left wing-back role.

Reacting to the move, Amass told club media, “I’m very excited, I can’t wait to get going and I’m just really happy that it has all happened. I think as a player, I would say I’m exciting, I’m confident, I’m hard-working and really ready for this challenge.”

“One of my biggest strengths is that I believe in myself, I know what I’m capable of and my main goal is to perform week in, week out and show consistency,” The Peoples Person said.

Even so as Wednesday have been in a financial mess under the ownership of Thai tuna magnate Dejpon Chansiri, who failed to pay players and staff on time in four of the last five months, though monies owed are now up to date while an embargo on the club has been lifted after outstanding transfer fees were also satisfied, Owl fans submitted a letter to Thai Ambassador to UK Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra appealing for help on Aug. 19 as follows:

To His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand in London.

With the utmost respect, we write to you as representatives of the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust, a body committed to preserving the legacy, dignity, and future of one of England’s oldest and most historic football clubs.

We are compelled to raise our concerns regarding Mr. Dejphon Chansiri, a Thai national and current owner of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. His tenure has been marked by mismanagement, repeated sanctions from the English Football League (EFL), and a refusal to engage with media or supporters. His actions have brought disrepute not only to the club but, regrettably, to Thailand’s reputation in the international footballing community.

The club is now in crisis. Senior players have departed, leaving only eleven professionals. Youth players are being fielded in competitive matches. Mr. Chansiri faces serious disciplinary charges from the EFL, and the expected punishment may result in relegation. Despite this, he refuses to sell the club, clinging to an inflated valuation and ignoring credible interest from well-funded buyers.

We respectfully ask Your Excellency to consider forwarding this letter to the Royal Family of Thailand, should you deem it appropriate. We believe that their influence may help persuade Mr. Chansiri to relinquish control and allow new ownership to restore the club’s fortunes.

This is not merely a sporting matter—it is a question of legacy, community, and international reputation. We appeal to you in the hope that Thailand’s name may be associated not with decline, but with dignity and renewal.

With sincere respect,

Mr Ian Bennett

Chairman
