THE escalating US-Israel war against Iran led to the Thai embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran temporarily relocating to Turkey where a shelter for Thai citizens will also be opened, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Mar. 6).
As the war has significantly endangered the life and property of Thais residing in Iran, the Thai embassy in Tehran is scheduled to shut down and temporarily move to the Turkish city of Van where it will reopen on Tuesday Mar. 10.
A shelter for Thai nationals departing Iran will open from tomorrow (Mar. 7) at Elite World Van Hotel, address: Bahpvan, Kazm Karabekr Blv. No.67, 65030 Merkez/Van.
This Thai embassy can be reached at +90 533 641 5698 (Telephone/Whatsapp) and Email: thaiembassy.thr@mfa.go.th
Meanwhile Mr. Narin Phoawanich, governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), said this evening that the agency has set up a war room to closely monitor US-Israel war on Iran 24 hours a day, especially the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar via the Strait of Hormuz, PPTVHD36 said.
Initially, the disruption has not affected electricity production but EGAT has moved to obtain LNG from other sources to mitigate the impact.
EGAT is also preparing to operate the Mae Moh coal-fired power plant in Lampang at full capacity while increasing hydroelectricity production and purchase both domestically and internationally thus enhancing energy security.
EGAT is closely monitoring the situation to ensure efficient and timely fuel management with minimal impact on electricity costs. Furthermore, the agency requests the public’s cooperation in conserving energy using the “5 P” measures: “Switch Off, Adjust, Unplug, Change, Plant” to reduce reliance on imported fuels.
