SECOND ARMY Region Commander Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang today (June 14) underscored that Thais have held the three disputed temples and Chong Bok area at Ubon Ratchathani province for a long time and Cambodia would have to fight for them with Thailand also not going to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on this issue, Amarin TV said this morning.
During a special lecture to 5th year Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy students, he said: “This is my land, we have been here for a long time, if you want it you have to fight for it.”
He added that the International Court of Justice would only accept a case for consideration if both parties agree but Thailand will never agree to this method of resolving the dispute.
“Therefore, don’t worry about going to the International Court of Justice. I have already told the government that there is no need to go to the International Court of Justice. It is not related. My land, we have been here for a long time, if you want it, you have to fight for it. That’s all. I don’t see how difficult this could be. Clarifying, if these words reach Hun Sen, he will respond again,” said Lt. Gen. Boonsin.
Meanwhile Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said in a Facebook post in the middle of last night that there would be no negotiation on two issues at a meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) today (June 14) with these being:
+ Four disputed areas, Prasat Ta Muen Thom, Prasat Ta Moan Tauch, Prasat Ta Khwai (called Prasat Ta Krabey in Khmer language), and the Emerald Triangle, or Mombei area in Khmer language, will be sent to the International Court of Justice for a ruling.
Cambodia will wait for Thailand’s stance at the JBC meeting to see if it will join in submitting the case to ICJ and if Thailand refuses Cambodia will unilaterally request ICJ with the Foreign Ministry to send an official letter on Sunday (June 15);
+ The issue of opening hours of border checkpoints is not the responsibility of JBC to handle.
