Chinese actor missing at Mae Sot after being tricked into joining a shoot here

A CHINESE actor’s girlfriend posted a message on Sina Weibo social media platform that he had been tricked into travelling to Thailand to  film a drama before disappearing at Thai-Myanmar border with the Chinese consulate in Chiang Mai confirming that he went missing in Mae Sot, Naewna newspaper and Global Times said this afternoon (Jan. 6).

Jiajia said she last contacted her boyfriend, actor Xingxing(real name Wang Xing), who has acted in several Chinese TV dramas, at noon on Friday Jan. 3 Beijing time (11 a.m. in Thailand) and found out that he was in the Thai-Myanmar border area.

She has tried every possible way to locate him without any progress so decided to ask social media for help.

Before disappearing Xingxing had received a casting notice through an actors’ group chat and, after successfully auditioning and adding the production coordinator on WeChat, decided to go to Thailand to join the shoot.

At 4 p.m. (3 p.m. in Thailand)  on Jan. 3 Xingxing flew from Shanghai to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok then took a car arranged by the coordinator.

His girlfriend said from morning till noon she had kept in touch with her boyfriend, including sending her location, and it appeared that he was travelling to Tak province.

After being unable to contact Xingxing, Jiajai immediately asked Shanghai Public Security Bureau and the Chinese Embassy in Thailand for help. His family too asked the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai for assistance.

Staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai confirmed with the Global Times on Monday morning that the consulate received a call from the actor’s family on Friday regarding Xingxing’s disappearance in Mae Sot, which is just opposite Myanmar’s Myawaddy township where a major hub of Internet fraud and human trafficking is located.

“The consulate responded actively, providing detailed information on how the situation would be handled, and has maintained good communication with the family,” said the consulate staff. “We will continue to follow up on the case in accordance with relevant regulations, ensuring the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens within our jurisdiction.”

Jiajia arrived in Thailand today and posted an update saying she will be going to the Chinese embassy in Bangkok to personally ask for help and intends to report this case to the Thai police.

Xingxing has featured in several Chinese TV dramas, including Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact, The Tale of Rose, and Under The Skin.
