Serial petitioner calls for probe of Thaksin-Anwar Ibrahim meeting

A POLITICAL activist who is often referred to as a serial petitioner today (Jan. 2) called on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to investigate whether her father/ de facto Pheu Thai boss had violated a court order forbidding him from leaving the country in recently meeting Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a yacht somewhere between Thailand’s Koh Lipe island and Malaysia’s Langkawi island, Amarin TV said.

Mr. Sonthiya Sawasdee, who is a former adviser to House committee on law, justice and human rights, submitted a letter to the Government’s Complaint Centre calling for action to be taken on four issues with the Thaksin-Anwar Ibrahim meeting being one of them.

He said that if this meeting took place in Malaysian waters then Thaksin would have violated the court order forbidding him from leaving the country as he still faces a lawsuit on Section 112 of the Criminal Code, better known as lese majeste law. On the other hand if the meeting took place in Thai waters did the Thai government permit the Malaysian Prime Minister to cross over.

The second issue he wants investigated is the government allowing its supporters to continuously attack those holding differing views on Tiktok.

He also wants to know where to money is coming from to foot the 10,000 baht cash handout scheme. An estimated 45 million Thais aged 16 years and over nationwide were calculated to benefit from the handout project, launched during last year’s Pheu Thai electoral campaign, thus incurring a total of 450 billion baht in government budget.

The last issue he wants addressed is the planned implementation of a joint Thai-Cambodian development project around Koh Kood island with intent for both countries to cooperate in exploring, producing and sharing undersea natural resources under debatable MoU reached between Bangkok and Phnom Penh in 2001.

Sonthiya said this MoU goes against the Franco-Siamese treaty of 1907.
