More victims of Feng Shui fortune teller’s scam file complaints

AS MANY AS 25 victims of a famous Feng Shui fortune teller’s scam have filed complaints against him with total losses reaching over 80 million baht, Thai Rath newspaper said this afternoon (Nov. 6).

Pol. Col. Anek Taosuphap, deputy commander of the Crime Suppression Division, said the first victim to file a complaint against him had been scammed out of 60 million baht with the fortune teller’s tactic being to rent out sacred objects to ward off back luck.

One victim is in Malaysia with this person having lost over 400,000 baht and had appointed an attorney to file a case on his behalf.

The Feng Shui fortune teller’s ploy was to point to a vent, a transformer or a power pole in front of a house he had been invited to check out then warning this could lead to some disasters such as residents falling sick, having accidents or some other serious life-threatening events cropping up.

He would then sell amulets, such as a unicorn or a lion, to ward off the bad luck, Pol. Col. Anek said, adding this has been going on for two to three years and some of the victims did not get the items after paying for them.

“One reason the victims believed him is because he is famous and often appears in various media … with this making him look trustworthy,” he said.

Asked whether his action could be considered defrauding the public, Pol. Col. Anek said other evidence would have to be considered with all dimensions to be investigated including the financial path.

Police will also be checking his social media posts and messages and assessing his behaviour to determine whether he has defrauded the public and violated the Computer Crimes Act.
