Pol. Lt. Gen. Thathchai Pitanilaputra, assistant national police chief, held a meeting today to follow up on the investigation and examine the evidence of the fire at the chemical storage factory in Rayong.

He said it can be confirmed that the fire at the first chemical factory (in Rayong) was arson and it was also found that the factories inspected, where dangerous chemicals were stored and transportation business operated, were all owned by the same person who had run them for many years.

Although the senior police officer did not identify which chemical factory fire in Rayong was found to be arson, Win Process Co.’s chemical warehouses caught fire on Apr. 22 this year followed by a huge blaze at Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Co. Ltd.’s tank farm on May 9.

It is expected that five to 10 additional warrants will soon be issued for those charged with complicity in this crime.

Those facing arrest are the executive of each factory who are responsible for managing the business and they will be prosecuted separately for different crimes.
