Fire spreads to second gas tank in Rayong

FIREMEN were unable to control a big blaze that engulfed a pyrolysis gasoline tank at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and the fire has now spread to a second one with five persons seriously injured, Amarin TV said today (May 9),

At 11 a.m. as  firemen and other officials were fighting the blaze with wind blowing from the southeast to the northeast it spread to a second tank and led to evacuation of workers unrelated to this task.

Roads have also been closed with vehicles forbidden from entering a 500-metre radius of this estate but no request has been for additional fire trucks with the company saying it has been able to control it at an initial level.

It was reported that five workers were seriously injured and taken to a private hospital.

Officials have not yet been able to determine the cause of the fire but it was reported that it broke out in the first pyrolysis gasoline tank during maintenance.

Another fire broke out at a warehouse used for growing and storing cannabis in Mueang district of Chachoengsao province at 10 a.m. this morning but firefighters were able to extinguish it in 50 minutes.

This warehouse is one of four belonging to a private company with the others used store parcels for delivery.

Mr. Phathorn Sitthikarn, head of Khlong Luang Paeng Or Bor Tor (the Subdistrict Administrative Organisation) said it is initially believed that a short circuit triggered this blaze but the source has not yet been found. Firefighters said foam boxed lined the walls of this warehouse with this being very flammable.
