WITH the European Football Championship now in full swing, police are going all out to suppress gambling on the outcome of matches with more than 1,700 punters arrested over seven days, Naewna newspaper said this evening (June 21).
Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradej Pimolsri, assistant national police chief, said continuous action is being taken to prevent and suppress both online and on-site gambling during Euro 2024 taking place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
Altogether 1,578 on-site gambling dens were raided during June 14-20 with 1,578 suspects arrested and of them 65 were dealers, 1,503 players and 10 runners.
Additionally, 62 online gambling websites were busted and 248 suspects arrested with 28 being dealers and 220 players. Four were very large ones with around 1.4 billion baht cash in circulation.
Gambling suspects face maximum 2 years imprisonment and/or 2,000 baht fine. Those who induce or allow children to behave inappropriately face three months imprisonment and/or 30,000 baht fine.
