Over a hundred injured in Myawaddy fighting treated in Tak province so far: Chonlanan

PUBLIC Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew said in Mae Sot town today (Aug. 22) that after fierce fighting broke out across the border in Myawaddy last Saturday Apr. 20  altogether 113 Myanmar citizens have been treated at various hospitals in Tak province with many of them now discharged because they had suffered minor injuries, Amarin TV said.

Mae Sot Hospital where a large number of injured Myanmar people had been brought for treatment can still handle the situation efficiently in accordance to a predetermined plan. This hospital is prepared both in terms of personnel and equipment plus medical supplies to treat those injured in the fighting in Myawaddy between Karen National Union (KNU) and its ally People’s Defence Force (PDF) and Myanmar junta.

Mae Sot Hospital also has a medical team screening Myanmar people sheltering in safe zones to prevent the outbreak of epidemics because a large number had crossed over to the Thai side after this round of fighting erupted.

Last Saturday night Mae Sot Hospital issued an emergency because 22 patients showed up at the same time with this being the hospital’s normal procedure. Most patients suffered shrapnel injury with 41 requiring surgery and this hospital gave medical treatment to all of them without differentiation.

Moreover this hospital can still admit more patients according to its plan.

At Tha Sai Rujira temporary shelter in Tha Sai Luat subdistrict, Mae Sot district, where Myanmar people fleeing the fighting are housed, this afternoon an additional 557 voluntarily asked to return home taking the day’s total to 1,107 who had been repatriated.

There now only remains 906 people in this camp and Mae Sot district Red Cross officials, field medical teams and Mae Sot district security officials are taking care of them according to international principles.
