April Fools’ Day story: Woman makes a fool of herself for nothing

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

AN ORDINARY ISAAN woman named Valissa works from dawn till dark at night at a roadside restaurant in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima. Little did she know about a fine for telling the police a lie about the money which she has literally earned.

The 30-year-old woman from Amnart Charoen was today (Apr. 1) arrested and fined for formally filing a false statement with Pak Chong police involving a sum of 2,200 baht in cash which she had earned and prepared to remit to her 14-year-old son at a student dormitory in downtown Korat.

Hours earlier, the woman cook told the police she had been robbed of her money by a group of unknown teenagers in a dark alley in a Pak Chong community as she was walking home after work last night.

After filing the untruthful case at the police station, Valissa was obliged to bring the police to the non-existent scene of the crime. But she looked so distracted and suspicious during the police’s standard procedures she abashedly confessed she was entirely making it up.

Valissa was fined 1,000 baht for filing the false statement whilst the police officer on duty could not help wondering why she had to come up with such a yarn with the money that she had earned.

The Isaan woman cook said she had desperately kept a secret from her new husband about the fact that she has a son with her former spouse who had earlier left her.

She had deliberately lied to her current spouse that she was a single woman without children, taking for granted that he would never care to find out the truth about her private life far away from Pak Chong where she has moved to work and met him since the last few years.

Valissa quietly returned home, feeling pity for her son who was finally given half the sum of money which she had earlier intended for him and desperately keeping her fingers crossed her new husband would never get wind of the latest event in which she had just made a fool of herself.
