FOLLOWING complaints that the new city plan for Bangkok benefits capitalists, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) today (Jan. 9) extended the deadline for lodging requests to amend it till Feb. 29, TV Channel 7 and TNA said.
Mr. Wissanu Supsompon, deputy Bangkok governor, said seven public hearings have been held on the new city plan and at the last one which took place on Saturday Jan. 6 some residents criticised it as benefiting capitalists while being unbalanced with lack of intent to develop the quality of life of people at all levels.
However Wissanu clarified that the new city plan does not favour capitalists while the city administration fully understands the residents wanting to add more water and environmental resources to the city.
For this reason the door is now open to file requests for changing the plan till Feb. 29 from Jan. 22 as previously set.
Bangkok residents were also reassured there will not be expropriation of land in residential areas to widen roads with what is marked being for new road works to prevent congestion but this does encroach these residential zones, he added.
There are still many more stages for the final approval of the new city plan with this still having to be passed by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt’s committee, Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning and Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry.
