3 dead, 2 injured in Phuket motorbike crash

 

A THAI man and two foreigners died and other foreigners got injured after a Russian man zooming down a Phuket road on a big bike hit another motorcycle ridden by three other foreigners then slammed into a parked taxi, Matichon newspaper said today (Nov. 4).

At 3.30 a.m. this morning Pol. Lt. Col. Prasit Raob, an inspector at Chalong police station, was informed of this bad accident in front of Siam Commercial Bank Rawai branch, Wiset road, so rushed there together with Rawai subdistrict rescuers and Chalong Hospital’s EMS Advance unit.

At the scene they found four injured people with three of them being taken to Chalong Hospital and one Dibuk Hospital.

A Russian tourist, identified as Mr. Alexey Viktorovich Tunin, 35, was found dead at the scene and his body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. His Ducati big bike, registration number 1 Kor Phor  5855, was completely damaged.

Nearby a brand new taxi, with green licence plate number 2521, was smashed at the rear with the tail lights hanging down. Around 80 metres away a red Yamaha motorcycle with the rear damaged lay by a light pole.

A rescuer, Mr. Paking Pewon, 44, said residents in this area told him that the big bike had come down the road from Rawai beach at high speed. When the rider reached this point another motorcycle ridden by a foreign man with a foreign woman and another foreign man in the pillion had crossed from an entertainment venue to a U-turn point when it was hit by the big bike.

The big bike then crashed into the nearby taxi with the Russian rider dying on the spot.

Police said aside from Tunin, the two others who died in this accident were a Thai man whose name has been withheld and who passed away at Chalong Hospital and a Russian woman, Ms.Valentina Romanovna Romantsova, 29, who died at Dibuk Hospital.

The two foreigners who got injured are Frenchmen.

Police are now going through surveillance camera clips to determine the cause of the accident and will also be informing the Russian embassy about two of their nationals having died in this accident.
