PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha refused to answer reporters’ questions about mounting pressure to step down as his eight-year rule is ending tomorrow, August 23, with a spokesman later saying he is waiting for the Constitutional Court’s ruling on this issue, Matichon newspaper said.
When he came out of the Phakdi Bodin Building at the Government House after chairing a National Strategy Committee meeting reporters immediately tried to question him but he only gave a wai then waved and went to his office.
Later Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, deputy secretary-general to the Prime Minister for political affairs acting as a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, said Gen. Prayut had not given any special instruction about demonstrators intending to invade the Government Huse tomorrow and the day after, August 23-24.
Today’s National Strategy Committee meeting was also attended by the speakers of the House of Representatives and the Senate but they only focused on driving the national strategy with political issues not discussed.
However those in charge of security had held a meeting, made preparations and rehearsed, he said, adding it was normal to hold such meetings, prepare routes and talk about anything.
Moreover Prayut will be coming to attend the Cabinet meeting as usual tomorrow morning.
Regarding Parliament President Chuan Leekpai having today submitted a petition signed by 171 opposition MPs to the Constitutional Court to rule on Prayut’s eight-year tenure maximumly provided by law, Anucha people should follow the legal process with the Prime Minister emphasising he is not above the law and has to respect the court’s ruling similar to ordinary people.
