A LEADING doctor at Chulalongkorn University said today (July 26) on his Facebook Page that he no longer pays attention to the daily Covid-19 tally because the total number of people testing positive via antigen test kit (ATK) over seven days has ballooned above 200,000, Matichon newspaper said.
Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, a professor of neurology at Chulalongkorn University’s Department of Medicine, published a chart showing yesterday’s Covid count and said readers should ignore the total of 2,424 cases, 890 pneumonia patients and 32 deaths.
He also published another chart showing that the total number of people getting ATK positive results during July 17-23 jumped to 204,615.
He added that if those who carried out antigen tests on their own and did not report their result were added the total would be higher.
However this morning the Public Health Ministry said an additional 1,828 Covid patients were hospitalised over the past 24 hours with there also being 35 deaths. This takes the cumulative confirmed total since Jan. 1 to 2,355,986 and since the start of the pandemic 4,597,421.
Today’s fatalities raised the death toll since Jan. 1 to 9,526 and since the start of the pandemic 31,224.
An additional 2,173 patients were cured taking total recoveries since Jan. 1 to 2.356,098 and since the start of the pandemic 4,524,592. Altogether 23,605 patients are still undergoing treatment with 903 in severe condition.
