Rayong shakes off oil spill crisis, unveils special event

HAVING now emerged from the oil spill crisis, the Governor of Rayong this evening (Feb. 7) announced a tourism promotion event for three days with free seafood for participants, Naewna newspaper said.

At 5 p.m. today Mr. Channa Iamsaeng, Rayong’s Governor, together with some senior officials said at a press conference that the “Rayong in Love Chuan Chim Rim Lae” (Rayong in Love, an Invitation to Taste by the Sea) event is being held during Feb 12-14, 2022 after the coastal province suffered the large oil spill with some of it washing up on Mae Rum Phueng beach.

The governor confirmed that the oil slicks have been completely cleaned and the authorities are confident that the sea as well as the seafood are now safe for everyone.

Officials have been checking all the markets in the province and have determined that the seafood is not contaminated.

The red flags at Mae Ram Phueng have been removed and people can again swim in the sea, he said, adding that while the boom barriers are still in place they will be quickly removed before the promotional event kicks off.

Mr. Piya Pitutecha, the head of Rayong Provincial Administration Organisation, urged tourists to return to this seaside town where he guarantees the food is safe.

He mentioned that he eats this food everyday and if anyone were to die he would be the first to do so.

Those who register their participation will be given a prize for doing so.

Mr. Anon Wongyam,  Rayong’s deputy governor and Mueang Rayong district chief, invited couples come over during this event as arrangements have been made for marriage registration at a stone courtyard on the beach with a special gift for those tying the knot during these three days.
