Test & Go entry procedure suspended immediately

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-ocha said after a meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) executive committee that the Test & Go entry procedure has been suspended from today (Dec. 21) but those who have registered to enter via this channel may still do so, Matichon newspaper said.

Of the 200,000 people allowed to enter Thailand via the Sandbox and Test & Go systems 110,000 had already arrived here with there remaining 90,000 still to come in and it was necessary to take care of them, he said.

“There will be no further registration until the situation is reconsidered on January 4, 2022,” he said.

Prayut added that those in charge had confirmed that they could handle any infection among those who had already entered and others still to do so.

While Omicron spreads fast there has not been a big impact on the country as yet, he said, adding he had to listen to both sides.

When asked whether any additional measures on entering the country were being introduced, Prayut said there was nothing at the moment with the authorities just having to track people who had come through various channels.

Regarding Thais returning to their country, if they had registered to enter by Test & Go beforehand they may enter via that channel otherwise after today they would have to be quarantined seven or 10 days or whatever that is set.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn had told Thai Rath newspaper that that nothing had changed regarding applying Covid control measures during New Year’s Eve celebration because the Omicron variant was mainly being found among those coming from overseas.
